Quick Trip to VA

Took a quick run down to Virginia Bch to watch a good friend take command of his new "Yacht". ;) Somehow Luke has never managed to ride the Cape May-Lewes Ferry in his young 8 years so this was his maiden voyage over the Delaware Bay.

Left the boards at home for this trip down Route 13 as the wave forecast looked bleak and visiting with friends was the reason for the trip. Hindsight being 20/20, there was a fun little wave on Friday afternoon when we all rolled over to Sandbridge. May have been able to sneak out for a quickie. Saw a few guys out early on Friday morning at the north end of town. Pretty small but very clean. It was 8:30 and hot, hot, hot already, everybody in trunks... Amazing the temperature change in less than 200 miles.

Always nice, or should I say interesting, to drive down Route 13 on the Eastern Shore of MD & VA. The sights and smells always keep you waiting for what you'll encounter the next mile down the road. Although, on this trip the chicken farms seem to have been empty or abandoned in several areas.(?) Did see the usual amount of traveling surfers heading to and from the OBX. I imagine many a NE surfer has rolled down this highway with Cape Hatteras on their mind. I know I have. I even had it on my mind this trip.....

My friend took command of the USCGC Beluga, an 87' patrol boat out of Little Creek, Virginia on Friday morning. A long way from his last tour of duty at CG Station Maui. Its great to have good freinds back in the neighborhood. Although having a buddy in Maui was nice too.
