I know that board....

Blog surfing and saw something in the background that looked familiar. The Zeph's in the shot caught my attention and the mid length in the middle looks very much like one that's up at Heritage in OCNJ. How many shapers boards stick in your mind like that??? Funny, or am I just o-d-d.... ;)

Citizen's Bank Park

Had an opportunity to spend the day at the ballpark last week and gain some knowledge on grass. Met with Mike Boekholder, the head groundskeeper for the Phillies for a few hours and had a leason on turf management. Great guy and an awesome facility. We even got to see inside the clubhouse, which was something I was not expecting. Pretty neat experience.

Innerlight.....

I can still recall the first time my friends and I snuck across 9th Avenue ( it was a 4 lane and we weren't allowed to cross) to see "inside" the Innerlight. Back then it was in the first floor of an old house next to Church's Chicken. Pretty sure we were run out of the shop more than just a few times as we never had any money. :) We just wanted to stare at the boards, the local surfing photos or the posters of Lopez at giant Pipe. Very fond memories.

Hope your Thanksgiving was nice...

Hope your's was as nice as ours. Traveled south to the FL panhandle and spent the holiday with my sister and her family. Got to see some family that we have not seen in a very long time. Had a few surfs with my brother-in-law and nephew. Traveled to Bama and got a big Turkey Day suprise from our ROMAD who traveled over from Airborne school in Ft. Benning, GA. So very many things to be Thankful for. Stoked!

Many hot summer days of my youth were spent in this little creek.

One happy Mom and her "little" ROMAD

Almost all of the kids. Missed ya Joe...

Pizzatime

A cool old Liddle from the Pizzatime blog. I'd be too stoked to find one of these in a used rack around here. Love the outline. Just looks like it screams.

Paddled out in the dark....

Early AM session at the rockpile with Shawn and Greg. Enough size on it early that I walked out the rocks instead of paddling out. Still feeling out the Vaquero. Had a few nice long lefts that were fun. After and hour or so folks started to arrive and our threesome turned into a 12 or 13some. Still trying to beat down my first head cold of the season so and hour and a half was about all I was good for. Big and fun session especially sharing it with just two friends. Side note: Think I saw Rob Kulisek in the line-up just before I caught one in.... Aloha!

Fun little leftover swell tonight at the rockpile. Made all the more fun with near perfect weather and good friends in the line up.

Chuck D. - brother has been through the ringer this summer, glad to see him back and stoked as ever...

Dan aka "Roach", sliding right. You meet the nicest people through surfing. Pure Aloha!

Flat spell

After the last few weeks of utter flatness, looks like we may actually be getting a little swell back in the water in the coming days. Here's hoping.......

Columbus's day...

Hit up the rockpile yesterday morning to celebrate Mr. Columbus's "day". Regretfully the tide and sandbars were not cooperating well with the little swell that was in the water. A few fun waves early but the incoming tide funked things up. The little sandbar next to the rocks was looking OK but the fishermen beat me to that spot. Took a mid afternoon stroll along the Cove with LB. Did a little sea glass hunting and enjoyed the near perfect weather.

Drool.....

Shelter surf shop line up. A quartet of 7'6" eggs looking way too fun.......

Chilly HQ

Checked Beach Ave on the drive home after work and came home and grabbed a board to head right back. Crazy how a few inches of tide change things within a half an hour. The NE wind that blew all day shifted NW and was a little on the cold side tonight. The funky backwash off the beach was jacking what looked like a 2' wave into a 4' wave making for a pretty fun "drop in then get out" kind of thing. The 10'6" was not liking the howling offshores. Getting up on the nose ASAP was key to staying on the face. Made for some real fun waves. Headed out to the tip of the rocks after a pretty big set rolled all the way through to the inside. Managed to get into a few nice sized ones but the long waits in the wind got a little too cold. Probably the last session in my spring suit for the year unless things warm back up soon... Last week the water was in the mid 70s, now the buoy is reading 66. If these cool rainy days hang around for a few more days, I have a feeling we're going to be seeing 50 degree water temps in the very near future. Fun session.... ALOHA!

Camera lives again....

Somehow my camera came back to life. Gave it another try before sending it in to Olympus for repair. Its ALIVE! A few shots from this AM at the Rockpile. Very clean early and then the wind came up. Stuck the board on the car and grabbed the camera to give it a real test run. So far so good. Sadly, my photography skills haven't improved. My apologies in advance..... ALOHA!
Snuck up on Shawn G. in the parking lot. A few seconds later and this photo may have had a PG-13 rating. ;)

Igor photos

All photos by Yukon Ed. Igor swell and leftovers. More to follow.........

Shawn Garry

Rob G.

Rob was on fire. Swear he was in the water all day, every day of the last two hurricane swells. The man is my hero!

Her name escapes me but she's a graceful surfer and always has a smile. She and her boyfriend (Matt?) rescued a teenage bodysurfer who was caught in a rip and pulled way outside on Saturday of the swell. Good karma points earned that day! ;)

Fall

Celebrated #44 this past week and received a fun AM surf as a gift from Mother Ocean. Funny how things change as we get older. As a child, the eagerness for that special day to arrive was so exciting. The excitement of turning another year older was always such a neat experience. Now, the excitement is fading and reality begins to take hold. Youth has passed and the day seems to slip by just like all the rest. These days, I look forward to that special day as the arrival of my favorite season. The arrival of the Fall may be bleak or disappointing to some, the days get shorter, the temperatures start to cool, and we all prep for the eventual coming of winter. But for me, its the best time of the year. Cool but not cold, crisp but not bitter. Watching Mother Nature change her colors from greens to so many shades of red, orange, and yellow. The skies seem a little clearer, the air a little cleaner and the nights a bit quieter. In a word, Peaceful. So as another year slides by, I look forward to the days ahead. Here's hoping for a few more weeks of warm water and some glassy morning surfs. :) Maluhia...

Igor delivers...

Igor's swell started showing up on Thursday and continued to build into the weekend. Missing the camera to document some of the views from the last few days but have some great shots etched into my memory bank. Today was the biggest day since... I don't remember. Dean Lyons had a huge wave at the rocks. Saw him drop into one monster that was several feet overhead, no exaggerations. I had a great view as I was paddling back out, I made it over the shoulder of the wave he was on only to meet the bigger wave behind it. Gotta love it when there's a 10' wall of whitewater about to mow you down.... ;) Overall it was pretty clean this afternoon, just these huge bombs rolling in and what a rush it was dropping down such a big face on a big board. The 10'6" was great and so fast down the big walls. So often I want to get something smaller for the big stuff but today really proved that a big board works just fine in the right conditions. Best big waves of the year for me so far.

10'6" and likes the big stuff just fine!!!
