Mid day glass...

Walked over the dune at lunch today and saw this.

Glassy little walls that were perfect for some quality log riding. Just a few of us out getting in what looks to be the last surf of 2013.

Swirly

Saw this one over at OCEAN OUTFITTERS in Wildwood Crest. A late 60s G&S awaiting pick-up by its owner after a bit of ding repair.  Deck pattern appeared to be some type of brushed paint directly on the foam instead of your typical resin swirl type design. In a few spots it looked like some airbrush work as well.  Mid 9', T-band stringer, W.A.V.E. set fin box, pinched rails and quite clean overall. Pretty cool to see it.

The day after...

The sailboat that ran into the Rocks yesterday came apart in the night. The deck has separated from the hull and everything that was inside, is now coming out. The small swell is tearing apart what remains of the boat and debris covered the shoreline at sunrise. We got the call out early to the core group of surfers and to the CG Auxiliary crew. Over the course of 6 hours, we managed to pull quite a bit of the debris and trash from the shore and get it over the dune and into the parking lot for further disposal by the USCG or boat owner. Sadly, the boat continues to come apart and debris still litters the line-up and will be washing ashore for quite some time. Bummed this happened but stoked to see the efforts of my friends and fellow surfers that love this little corner of coastline we call the ROCKS.

Shipwreck at the Rocks

Heard about this at work today. OUCH!

News flash and photos courtesy of Matt J.
Here you go boys....footage of the sailboat that ran into our precious jetty.
According to sea tow, the owners have no insurance and/or money to remove the vessel which is currently emptying its 250gal tank of diesel fuel into our favorite watering hole.  This is not good for the timing of some potential surf late this weekend.  Let's cross our fingers this is taken care of soon or we may have to call on our secret team of CGAUX Eco-soliders to resolve the issue...standby for updates from General Goodman for any deployment.

At ease,
MJ      nice knee high peeler off the wreck...

A quiver, of sorts....

This past Sunday, hand warmth was a HOT topic in the line-up. A couple of the guys were sticking to their 5 finger gloves and having some comfort issues as their sessions wore on. With the water temps in the mid 40s, air in the 30s and the NW winds cranking, I decided to go for with warmth over dexterity, and nothing says warm like 7mm mittens! ;)

2mm for the chilly AM sessions in the early Fall - 5mm 5 finger when it gets cold - 7mm mittens for when it gets frosty.

A light dusting...

First snow of the season.
Glad it didn't amount to much.

Saturday morning...

Surfed CM in the rain and some rare December lightning & thunder yesterday. Glad I got some of the long log worthy lines that were wrapping in at Grant St. because this morning they seem to have departed. Small leftovers at Grant St. and sloppy Rocks were all the early AM menu had to offer.

Regrets...

Checked Grant St. after work yesterday. With only 30 minutes before sunset, I talked myself out of suiting up for it...
Side note: I'm not ready for winter.

Turkey Day "AM" leftovers

NW wind howled all night and knocked the swell down a few pegs but there were two hardy souls who were just fine with that.

Big Chris

Chris and Chris had it all to themselves .

Wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving! :)

Enjoyed a Swell lunch, with a side order of Wind.

The low pressure system that moved up the coast delivered us some much needed swell this Thanksgiving Eve. Was stoked to see CM looking pretty good on my drive into work this AM. Got a pre-holiday early release from work and headed over to the Rocks after seeing the tide not jiving with the CM hot spots. Chest to head with OH sets and an offshore wind that was howling but holding up some big faces. Managed to get my fill over a couple of hours in the mayhem. Definitely should have packed the heavy rubber today. For sure the last day of the season for my trusty 4mil. Really started to get chilled around the 2hr mark. Air 39 Water 50ish.

I could use a little bit of this today.....

A warm tropical beach to stroll down... Don't think the mercury made it past 30 here today. Brrr!

A surf-worthy wave would be nice too.  ;)

The Bad, the Good and the Ugly......

Early: Weak, high tide, lumpy and side shore.

Mid-day: Dropping tide just starting to let the swell light up the new outside bars and the wind was coming around. Clean 2'- 4'  A-Frames with some long rights coming over from the rocks. Just me and my buddy Rob G. trading wave after wave as there was not another surfer was in sight.  Air 63, water 55, and the 9'6" Corky was killing it. STOKED!

Oh, the UGLY! Last wave of the day, one miss step and POW! Rail to the face.
(No post session photos due to me bleeding all over the place.)

No worries. That session was worth every stitch! :)
