The Hague's

While I don't ride a shortboard anymore, I still like to ride a shorter board when the waves get a little much for my longboard quiver. Here's an older photo of my mid-length Mike Hague shapes. The 8' on the right is my "go to" board when there is some size to the swell. I refer to it jokingly as the "abomination". It is not the most ideal of shapes, (a story for another day) it just works. ;)

Stormy Monday

The pleasant January weekend is gone and the light NE breeze that gave us some fun, clean surf became a gale force blow from the SE. The clean three day swell turned into a heaping pile of whitewater. Stopped along Beach Ave. on the drive home this afternoon to see a few of the guys suiting up to give it a go. Talked with Shawn G. who was checking things out with his little buddy. Pretty nasty looking out there with double-up heaps crunching off the end of the jetty. Hope the boys had fun in the chaos.

New addition....

Dennis Ryder Penetrator 10'6" picked it up a few weeks ago. Bought from Miles in Corpus Christi, TX who drove it to FL and there Brian from MD drove it north and eventually to OCNJ. Many thanks to both of those guys. Today might have been a good day to get her wet for the first time but my back and shoulders are pretty beat from the last two days. Feeling guilty for not going since there is a little swell still running. Maybe I'll sneak out later this afternoon.... ;)

Forgot my camera....

More Queen St this arvo. Some bigger sets than last night and some surprise power in the waves today. Broke my leash, first time I can recall that ever happening. Saw my buddies getting some nice waves. Really hate that I forgot the camera today. Another surf till the shoulders gave out session. :) Really fun surf the last two days!

Clean Queen

Got off work a hour early and headed straight to the water. Three guys were out at Poverty with some decent waves coming through. Rolled down to Queen St. and saw some nice long clean lefts calling my name. Maybe a little smaller than Povs but better form and longer. Steve showed about 15 minutes after I paddled out and we had it all to ourselves till sundown. Very clean in the wasit to chest range, maybe a few bigger sets. Beautiful afternoon on what was forecasted to be a bit nasty. Tomorrow is due to be a little bigger. I'll try to remember my camera... ;)

The Mitchum family colab!

I got lucky and had a chance to check out some of the work in progress over at the Mitchum casa last evening. Steve has mowed several blanks in the last few weeks to act as his little girl's canvas. Both daughter and pop have produced some pretty sweet results. Looking forward to checking them out when they're all done.

Photos from Afghanistan

We received some photos from our son in Afghanistan yesterday. We get a chance to hear his voice every once in a while but this was the first time we've seen his face since he left. Made our day. :)

Smokey's Si Si Slider

Saw this model yesterday up in OCNJ at Heritage. Nice log.
Nose concave with a bit of kick in the tail. Great looking resin work as well. This was a 10' version.

Cold, windy and flat....

Not much loggin or bloggin of late. While the waves have been non-existent, the winds have been working overtime. We had a little snow this AM, not more than an 1" or so. The weekend forecast is looking bitter with temps not quite getting out of the 20s. I did get word that a friend may be bringing up my new ( to me ) board from MD. Slo picked up in FL from MHC who drove it over from TX. So the board has some serious highway miles under it path. Stoked to get it but would be more excited if there was a hint of a wave in our near future..... I'll post up some photos later this weekend if she does arrive. Aloha nui loa

PS: Congratulations to the Univ. of Alabama football team. National Champs again! Roll Tide!!! :)

Hau'oli Makahiki Hou!

Made sure I dragged my tired self out of bed this AM in order to seek out the first waves of the new decade. I was happy to find some ultra clean (albeit, very cold) lines rolling in at the "rocks". Had several shoulder high rights that provided some New Year's Day stoke. Very fun for about 2 hours till the toes went numb (again). Ran up to Heritage in Sea Isle this arvo and grabbed a new pair of boots. Was planning on trying them out tomorrow morning but the forecast is looking a little breezy. (read: NW winds @ 25-30kts w/40kt gusts by the morning)

Here's to a safe and joyous 2010.
